Covid-19, Mascots & Live Entertainment

March 16, 2020 / by Nick Carpenter / Leave a Comment

The mascot world is in flux right now with the escalation of responses to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The National Mascot Association’s primary goal is the safety of performers and fans. Governors, civic leaders and organizations and  face difficult decisions in cancelling public events. Slowing or preventing the spread of a WHO recognized pandemic will save lives.  The effort to #FlattenTheCurve helps to not overload our healthcare systems.

Some mascot performers, serve as a steady link to the fans, student, communities and consumers. Their social media presence has served as a bridge to the future when we are all together in a post pandemic world.
But the economic impact for many mascot performers is very real right now.  Many performers are not salaried and paid per performance. These cancellations are difficult to the professional performers, who base their income on these events.  Mascots are not just utilized for games, but many public appearances as well.  For some mascots performers, there is simply no money coming in. We hold the performers in our hearts.

  • Is your program shrinking or expanding?
  • Is your program planning for the future or in a holding pattern?
Whats the temperature out there in Mascot Land?
